Welcome to The Ross Report

Perfectly unpolished. Occasionally chaotic. Always entertaining.

The Ross Report is the home of Marissa A. Ross—comedy writer, former Bon Appétit wine editor, author of Wine. All The Time., and all-around enthusiastic overthinker—back after five years, pouring wine and opinions in equal measure. Expect weekly wine reviews delivered with her signature blend of humor, insight, and irreverence.

You’ll also find personal essays, basketball rants, collage musings, and the kind of cultural commentary that couldn’t be labeled even if you tried. It’s all unfiltered, occasionally profane, and deeply conversational—just the way Ross fans like it.

Disclaimer: Posts may contain strong language, adult themes, and art featuring nudity. It’s a newsletter, not a PTA meeting.

What is “The Ross Test”?

What started as a throwaway joke in my comedy days somehow became a claim to fame: Can you swig it straight from the bottle without wincing? If yes, it passes. Bonus points if you forget to grab a glass in the first place.

About Marissa A. Ross

Marissa A. Ross is a writer, editor, and artist. She is best known for her candid, conversational approach to wine criticism and her analog collage work.

She began her career in comedy, training at the Upright Citizens Brigade and working as Mindy Kaling’s assistant before creating the web series Wine Time for Hello Giggles in 2011. In 2012, she launched the blog Wine. All The Time., which became a cult favorite for its irreverent takes on wine and culture.

Ross served as the wine editor for Bon Appétit from 2015 to 2020, where she helped usher in a new era of natural wine coverage and demystified the language of wine for a broader audience. Her work has appeared in The Los Angeles Times, VICE, Elle, Wine Enthusiast and more. Her 2017 book, Wine. All The Time.: The Casual Guide to Confident Drinking, has been praised for making wine education accessible without condescension.

After stepping away from the wine industry in 2020, Ross returned in 2025 with The Ross Report, blending new wine reviews with essays that showcase both her critical voice and personal perspective.

She is also the creator of Stepdad Collages, an analog collage project that reworks mid-century imagery to explore larger cultural themes of domesticity, gender roles, desire, and discrimination.

She lives in Los Angeles with her Pomeranian Groucho Barx, attends as many Clippers games as possible and is probably listening to Martin Denny or Kendrick Lamar while flipping through a 1960s coffee table book. Her home doubles as a living archive of random vintage artifacts and Disneyland tombstones. She is represented by CAA.

Why subscribe?

Because you like wine.
Each week, you’ll get a new bottle and a review that’s as thoughtful as it is funny. Ross’ tasting notes are renowned for being wildly descriptive, refreshingly human, and sneakily educational.

Because you need a laugh.
The world’s a mess. Your inbox doesn’t have to be.

Because you care about real storytelling.
Most online writing today is algorithm-choked and SEO-drenched. This isn’t that. Ross doesn’t optimize for clicks. She writes with intention, clarity, and voice—actual voice.

Because writers matter.
Journalism is crumbling. Literary voices are being replaced with bots. Supporting The Ross Report means supporting an actual writer making actual art—without corporate oversight, clickbait, or compromise.

Also… wine is expensive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
