Stepdad Drank My Homework
I was asked to contribute to my first art show, and spent five days in a bouquet of hot glue, 3M multimedia spray, and vintage Playmates instead of Pet-Nat.
I already had the wine
I was going to write about this week.
It’s been in my fridge for a while—
a bottle I’d been meaning to get to.
But I drank it on a string of late nights,
making five new collages
in five days;
for an art show in Minneapolis.
It’s the first time my art has ever
been asked into a show.
The first time it’s ever been sold.
I was asked to be part of this show last weekend. For a show this weekend.
These collages were made in a pressure cooker of time—but honestly, that’s when I do some of my best work (shoutout to my fellow ADHD kids).
I don’t like it. I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to change this about myself. But I can’t, and I’ve come to accept it.
So, in a creative sprint—many sleepless nights later—I made what I truly believe are some fun collages. Each one was made with intention, reflecting something about Minnesota, Minneapolis, or at least the Midwest, in its own way.
