Sometimes I open a bottle with every intention of writing about it.
But then someone shows up, and I have to pour them a glass. What is wine if not for sharing? Certainly not for reviewing since I forgot to save myself even a skosh while telling three long-winded stories.

Or I open something for a dinner party,
take one sip, and think,
“Damn, I should be taking notes.”
But I’m wearing a 1950s sheath dress that fits like a glove and moves like a straitjacket, and and by the time I’ve finished my high-stakes waddle worthy of a Hitchcock blonde to go fetch my notebook, the bottle has vanished quicker than Betty Draper’s maternal instincts.

This series is for the wines that got swallowed by the moment.
The ones that went down fast, survived perhaps only by a few barely legible scribbles on one of the 93,726 sticky notes strewn across my office. No spitting. No second chances. Just pure pleasure then— poof— gone, left to hope we meet again.
